2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid

2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid Expert Review

Reviewed by Bob Hernandez

The 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid is the Sportage formula at its most convincing: bold design, big interior space, and fuel economy that finally matches the compact SUV’s family-friendly mission.

Coming off a major 2026 refresh, it should continue as the smarter alternative to the gas model and a better-value choice than the plug-in hybrid. Hybrid compact SUV rivals include the Honda CR-V Hybrid, Subaru Forester Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4.

After a significant refresh for 2026, the 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid is expected to return with only minor packaging, pricing, or trim changes. The compact hybrid SUV should continue with its turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, strong fuel economy, roomy cabin, and updated tech interface.

This page will be updated with more insights and photos as information becomes available.

The 2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid should remain the version of this compact SUV to get. It keeps the Sportage’s bold design, roomy cabin, and strong tech game but swaps the gas model’s sluggish, inefficient powertrain for one that feels smoother, quicker, and much better matched to the vehicle.

That matters because the standard Sportage’s naturally aspirated engine is one of the lineup’s least convincing pieces. The hybrid feels more energetic in normal driving , and it delivers the kind of fuel economy shoppers expect from a modern compact crossover.

We would stick with front-wheel drive for maximum efficiency, as all-wheel drive comes with a fuel economy penalty. The Sportage Hybrid rides comfortably most of the time, although its soft suspension can let body motions get sloppy on broken pavement. Steering feel is not a highlight, but the response is predictable and easy to trust.

The plug-in hybrid is quicker still, but its higher price and limited electric range make the regular hybrid easier to recommend. It hits the better balance.

The Sportage Hybrid’s appeal isn’t just under the hood. Its cabin is spacious, thoughtfully arranged, and filled with smart details, including configurable cupholders and useful seat-back hooks. For shoppers drawn to the Sportage’s styling and space, the hybrid is the one that makes the whole package click.

Top-Ranked Competitors:

Performance should remain one of the 2027 Sportage Hybrid’s stronger selling points. It pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with two electric motors for a combined 232 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. In MotorTrend testing, the 2026 Sportage Hybrid SX-Prestige AWD reached 60 mph in 7.3 seconds .

That gives the Kia a slight edge over the CR-V Hybrid. The Honda’s setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors for 204 hp and 247 lb-ft, and an AWD CR-V Hybrid needed 7.6 seconds to hit 60 mph in our testing. The difference is not huge, but the Sportage Hybrid feels like the punchier pick on paper and at the test track.

MPGs and Range

The 2027 Sportage Hybrid remains highly efficient, though front-drive models take a small step back compared to last year. FWD versions are rated at 40/ 42 mpg city/highway, down from 41/44 mpg for 2026, and estimated range drops from 575 miles to 562 miles. AWD models carry over at 35/ 36 mpg with about 480 miles of range.

Against the Honda CR-V Hybrid, the comparison depends on drivetrain. The CR-V Hybrid FWD is rated at 43/36 mpg and 560 miles of range, giving Honda the city-mpg edge but Kia the better highway number and a slight range advantage.

With AWD, the CR-V Hybrid returns 40/34 mpg and 518 miles of range, making it more efficient in the city and longer-legged than the AWD Sportage Hybrid, though the Kia still holds a small highway-mpg advantage.

Safety Ratings and Features

IIHS named last year’s Sportage a 2026 Top Safety Pick+, and this year’s model should perform similarly in safety testing. The SUV is also expected to repeat its NHTSA result, with both FWD and AWD models earning five-star overall safety ratings.

Standard driver assist features include:

Automatic emergency braking

Front and rear parking sensors

Lane departure warning

Lane keeping

Adaptive cruise control

Driver focus monitoring

Cargo Space and Interior Room

Like the gas model, the Sportage Hybrid offers generous rear-seat space. Its cargo capacity and rear legroom compare favorably with hybrid rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester.

Legroom (front/rear)

Cargo Space (seats up/down)

2027 Kia Sportage Hybrid

41.4/41.3 inches

39.5/73.7 cubic feet

2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid

41.3/41.0 inches

36.3/71.8 cubic feet

2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid

43.3/39.4 inches

27.5/69.1 cubic feet

Every 2027 Sportage Hybrid includes a 12.3-inch driver display and a matching 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto . USB ports in both rows are standard.

Most Sportage Hybrid trims come with a six-speaker system. Eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio is offered with the top models.

A wireless phone charger, head-up display, and heated steering wheel are unlocked with grades above the base model. Seating upgrades include powered and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. A hands-free power liftgate, digital key, and power-folding side mirrors are also available.

Even with a likely small price increase for 2027, the base Sportage Hybrid should remain one of the smarter values in Kia’s compact SUV lineup. Every model combines strong fuel economy, a roomy cabin, and a responsive, efficient hybrid powertrain, giving shoppers plenty of substance before they start climbing the trim ladder.

The standard equipment list helps, too. Rain-sensing wipers, remote start, automatic headlights with automatic high-beams, acoustic windshield glass, rear privacy glass, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel give the entry-level model a more polished feel than its base-trim status suggests.

Assuming the 2026 trim structure carries over, the EX looks like the best Sportage Hybrid pick for most shoppers. It should deliver the core appeal of the lineup—strong efficiency, roomy packaging, and useful tech—without the bigger price jump of the X-Line or SX Prestige.
